A double-bill of contemporary dance presented by Yellow Wheel
CIRCLE DANCE
Choreographed by Gideon Obarzanek
Performed by Yellow Wheel Company 2
Long before Gideon Obarzanek founded renowned contemporary dance company Chunky Move in 1995, he was learning traditional Israeli folk dance on kibbutz. The core choreography in Circle Dance began its life there, and has been extrapolated from the memory of a movement that Obarzanek has found himself returning to, and drawing inspiration from.
In 2015 he created Circle Dance in collaboration with the graduate students of the Victorian College of the Arts School of Dance. Recreated for Yellow Wheel, watch the dancers succumb to an unrelenting physical drive in this intense performance, the Israeli folk roots of which are occasionally revealed to only the most observant eye. We invite you to see Circle Dance in a studio setting before it's premiere at the Festival of Jewish Arts and Music.
